PNB offers depository services to its customers at 139 branches spread across 60 centres all over the country, through Depository Participant (DP) located at Sansad Marg, New Delhi.

In the depository system, the ownership and transfer of securities takes place by means of electronic book entries. At the outset, this system rids the capital market of the dangers related to handling of paper. The major benefits to the customers are:

  • Eliminates bad deliveries, fake securities
  • Effects transfer of Securities immediately
  • Globally moving towards faster settlement cycles
  • No Stamp Duty for Transfer of Securities in the Depository
  • Reduces Transaction Costs
  • Reduces handling of huge volumes of paper
  • Eliminates all risks associated with physical certificates such as loss, theft, mutilation, forgery etc.
  • Facilitates lending and borrowing
  • Nomination / Transmission facility
  • Change in address recorded with DP gets registered electronically with all companies in which investor holds securities eliminating the need to correspond with each of them separately
  • Transmission of securities is done by DP eliminating correspondence with companies .As the transmission formalities for all securities held in a demat account can be completed by submitting documents to the DP whereas, in case of physical securities the surviving joint holder(s)/ legal heirs/ nominee has to correspond independently with each company in which shares are held
  • Settlement of Claim case for the full holding as a single case

  To open a Demat a/c

Approach the nearest branch offering depository services. You need to have:

  • Stamp paper (Stamp Duty as applicable for execution of agreement with DP)
  • One Pass port size photograph of applicant & One Passport size photograph of nominee and in case nominee is a minor, One Passport size photograph of Guardian of minor nominee also
  • Photocopy of PAN card
  • Proof of Address (Voter's ID-card, Passport, Ration Card, Driving license, Copy of latest Bank Statement (not preceding 2 months), Rent agreement, Telephone bill (only Landlines not preceding 2 months) and Electricity Bill)
  • Proof of identity (Voter ID-card, Passport, Driving License, PAN card)
